In the heart of Kyenjojo District, a quiet revolution is taking place, led by women who once doubted their ability to read, write, or speak in public. Through WICOT-Uganda’s Adult Literacy and Empowerment Program, these women are rewriting their own stories literally and figuratively.
One such woman, Grace, joined the literacy circle unable to sign her name or calculate basic household expenses. Six months later, she not only keeps business records for her tailoring shop but also mentors younger girls in her community. Her transformation mirrors that of hundreds of other women who now participate confidently in family decisions, manage savings groups, and even lead community initiatives.
For WICOT-Uganda, adult literacy goes beyond reading and writing — it’s about empowerment through education. By integrating literacy with health awareness, financial skills, and gender-based violence prevention, the program has helped women gain both knowledge and voice. Each success story reinforces a powerful truth: when women learn, families thrive and communities transform.
